Mohali, August 8: The ‘Humare Ram’ play in Mohali had its inaugural staging on Friday evening, marking the start of a 41 show tour across 12 cities of Punjab. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann attended the opening performance along with the general public at a packed venue in Mohali.
The show, featuring actor Ashutosh Rana, is fully sponsored by the Punjab government and will run through August and September. Entry for the public is free at every venue.
What is the ‘Humare Ram’ play about?
Humare Ram is a large scale theatrical production based on Valmiki’s Ramayana. It first premiered in 2024 and has since been staged hundreds of times across India. The play is directed by Gaurav Bhardwaj and produced by Felicity Theatre.
Ashutosh Rana plays the role of Ravan in the production. His performance drew particular praise from the Chief Minister during the Mohali event.
Why did Punjab choose Mohali for the first show?
Mohali was selected to open the state sponsored run because of its central location and large audience capacity. The ‘Humare Ram’ play in Mohali set the tone for the remaining 40 performances planned across the state.
Speaking at the event, Mann said the government wants to promote Punjab’s cultural heritage through the arts. He said the state is organising the shows to highlight traditional values linked to the region.

Bhagwant Mann, Chief Minister of Punjab, addressed the audience at the Mohali venue on August 7, 2026. He said, “The Punjab government is organising 41 performances of the acclaimed production across 12 cities of the state during August and September to promote the rich cultural heritage and traditional values of Punjab.”
He also said, “Punjab is a sacred and historic land, and the state government is committed to perpetuating its glorious legacy.” Mann added that the play brings alive the teachings of Lord Sri Ram.
According to an official statement, Mann said the shows aim to inspire young people. He noted that values like truth, compassion and unity need reinforcement today. One show has been staged so far. Forty more performances are scheduled across 11 remaining cities in the coming weeks.
