In Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district, an explosion occurred late on Saturday night on the freight train line near Sirhind station and near Khanpur village. A Government Railway Police official stated on Saturday that authorities are investigating whether the damage to a portion of the freight train track was caused by an explosion.

According to preliminary reports, unidentified individuals detonated an explosive device near kilometer 1208/15 of the railway line on Saturday at around 12:30 am. Although some sources speculate that high-grade explosives may have been used, authorities have not confirmed the kind of material used.
As a freight train approached the Khanpur railway gates, a powerful explosion is said to have blown off about 12 feet of the track, causing structural damage over a longer distance, according to railway officials. Senior police and railway officials arrived at the scene and cordoned it, despite some reports suggesting that high-grade explosives might have been involved.
The loco pilot of the freight engine was hurt in the explosion and was transported to a nearby hospital to receive first aid and is now stable.
To ensure safe train operations, additional security measures have been implemented and the track has begun to be restored. Additionally, police have opened a case against unidentified individuals and are attempting to find the culprits. Since this happened near Republic Day 2026, it’s taken a very seriously and a comprehensive report on the ongoing investigation is yet to be published by officials.
