The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office issued notices to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and four family members during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.The row matters for two reasons. It involves a former chief minister. It also shows how a routine roll check can turn political within hours. Punjab voters have seen a similar debate over their own draft roll.
Five people got notices:
- Arvind Kejriwal, AAP national convenor and former Delhi chief minister
- Sunita Kejriwal, his wife
- Pulkit Kejriwal, his son
- Gobind Ram Kejriwal, his father
- Gita Devi, his mother
They are among 110 people who received notices in Part 51, KG Marg, of Assembly Constituency 40, which covers New Delhi. Reports differ slightly on the count. Some say five family members. The named list has Kejriwal and four relatives.The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), New Delhi, explained the reason in a press statement. The forms were “not complete” and lacked details needed to link the family with the last revised roll.
The Electoral Registration Officer, New Delhi, says, “the submitted Enumeration Forms were not complete in terms of details which would have enabled linkage of themselves with the electoral roll of the last revision of the respective states, which were not present in their submitted Enumeration Forms.”
In this Press statement, he further says, “As per procedures established and communicated by ECI, Notices are being issued to the electors who could not be linked with the electoral roll of the last revision and those having logical discrepancies in their linking with the electoral roll of the last revision. Electors have to submit a reply/requisite documents to the ERO concerned on receipt of the Notice. Disposal of Notices will be completed by 29.10.2026.”
What does unmapped mean in the Delhi SIR voter list?
Unmapped voters are electors whose form details could not be linked to the roll from the last revision. The ERO said notices also go to voters with logical discrepancies in that linking.
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) visited homes and handed out enumeration forms. They followed instructions the Election Commission of India issued on May 14. A notice is not a deletion. The Delhi office said a missing name in the draft roll does not “constitute a final determination of ineligibility.” Electors must reply with the required documents.
How did AAP react to the Kejriwal SIR notice?
AAP responded on X the same day. The party asked the Election Commission how the names of Kejriwal and his family could be missing from the Delhi voter list. The two versions do not match. AAP says the names are missing. The poll body says the family is flagged as unmapped and the Kejriwals sit in the “no mapping” category.
Were other leaders flagged in the Delhi SIR?
Yes. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta received a notice over a logical discrepancy in her enumeration form. The Commission said a BLO verified her documents. Her entry was then validated. The SIR also listed Delhi minister Parvesh Sahib Singh among the flagged faces. The scale is large. The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer released details of 33.1 lakh electors marked for verification. That is about one third of the 97.5 lakh electors in the draft roll.
Is the Kejriwal SIR notice a political vendetta, as in the Punjab row?
The word vendetta has come up in Punjab, though, and the two cases mirror each other.
Raghav Chadha is a Rajya Sabha MP who joined the BJP in April. On September 3, he said his Mohali voter entry was marked “shifted” in Punjab’s draft roll. He called it “a clear case of political vendetta” and blamed officials of the AAP led state government. He also said the roll was only a draft and that he was pursuing remedies.
AAP rejected the charge. It said the revision is an Election Commission exercise and the state government has no role in individual entries. Punjab’s draft roll excluded 20.66 lakh entries.

What should voters do after an SIR notice in Delhi or Punjab?
- Read the notice and note the reply date.
- Gather papers that link you to the older roll.
- Submit the documents to the ERO.
- If your name is missing from the draft, file Form 6 with a declaration and proof.
- Check the final roll once it is published.
In Delhi, the claims period runs from August 31 to September 30. Punjab voters should check their entry on the Election Commission’s voter portal or with their BLO.
What happens next in the Kejriwal SIR notice matter?
The Delhi ERO said disposal of notices will finish by October 29. The final Delhi roll is scheduled for November 4. Punjab’s final roll is due in October. Whether the Kejriwal family has submitted documents has not been officially confirmed. AAP has also not said whether it will move a formal complaint.
