AAP door to door campaign began on Sunday, September 20, in Dhuri, Sangrur district. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched the Aam Aadmi Party’s outreach drive for the 2027 Assembly elections. He put his government’s four and a half year report card before voters and made “Mann Da Munafa” the theme of the campaign.
The phrase refers to the advantage of having Mann as chief minister. The launch also saw a row when police detained Congress leader Dalvir Singh Goldy at the venue.
What did Bhagwant Mann say at the AAP door to door campaign launch?
Mann said he went door to door across Dhuri and met families. They included elderly residents, women, youngsters and children. He explained the government’s schemes and listened to their views.
He said every family gets an annual benefit of ₹1.82 lakh through welfare initiatives. These include free electricity, healthcare, education and the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana. In a post on X, he said households save about ₹15,000 a month.

Mann called the outreach “the truest form of politics.” He said a leader must stand before a family and account for what has been done. He asked people to judge the government on that basis.
Mann described it as a simple question for every family. How much better off is your household today than before? He asked people to work out their monthly savings and said that answer would matter more than any pamphlet.
He unveiled the party’s election pamphlet in Ludhiana on Saturday. He said the government delivered more than it promised.
What welfare claims did Mann make?
Mann gave four examples:
- Lakhs of households get zero electricity bills, leaving money for children, homes and farms.
- Expanded primary healthcare means a check up need not push a family into debt.
- Better government schools give parents confidence to educate children without private fees.
- Every village now receives crores for development works.
He said panchayats get funds for roads, drainage, water supply, community buildings, sports grounds and street lighting. Villages identify the works themselves. He said better village infrastructure would help young people avoid migrating for basic facilities.
Mann said the campaign would stay positive and focus on governance. He also said AAP would question the opposition over its record and the drugs issue.
He said the Congress is busy with internal fights. He said the Shiromani Akali Dal has lost its presence on the ground. Both parties, he said, avoid discussing performance.
He also questioned the BJP’s stand on drugs. He alleged that drugs are brought into Punjab from Gujarat. The report gives no evidence for this claim and carries no response from the BJP.
What happened with Dalvir Goldy at the Dhuri event?
Dalvir Singh Goldy is a Congress leader and former Dhuri MLA. On Sunday, he reached the venue with a black cloth tied around his neck. Police detained him and later released him.
Dhuri Deputy Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh gave the police version. He said Goldy was taken away because of law and order concerns and was released after the programme. He said Goldy scaled the walls of his house and crossed rooftops to reach the venue.
Goldy said police had placed him under “house arrest.” In a video message on Friday, he had sought a meeting with the chief minister. He wanted to raise issues including an alleged suicide by a Dalit man in Sangrur and alleged custodial torture of a local man. After his release, he said AAP leaders run away from questions on state issues.
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring condemned the detention. He asked, “I wonder why Bhagwant Mann is afraid of Goldy?” He said the chief minister cannot stop people from asking questions once the poll code applies in a few months.
What else did Mann announce on Sunday?
At an event in Mohali, Mann said ₹1,310 crore has been spent on the treatment of more than 7 lakh patients under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana. The scheme gives a family free cashless treatment of up to ₹10 lakh.
Mann said the aim is to make sure no family falls into debt because of illness. He also accused the Centre of withholding funds due to Punjab. The report carries no response from the Centre.
